This is Kado:

Four hundred miles in the car is oddly exhausting...I need a nap.

They are stunning! Really beautiful. Congratulate them on finding the best ratty home in the whole world! (I'm secretly making a note of their...ahem...'girth' NOW--versus what it will be later!!)

Gorgeous Boys! Welcome to Artax and Kado. I hope they settle in quickly.

Ha, ha, Eanna. Their weights as of today are:
Rufus: 505 g
Artax: 432 g
Kado: 506 g
We don't know what Artax & Kado weighed yesterday before we took them and fed them grapes, strawberries, chips, and yogurt drops on the way home. When we stopped for lunch yesterday, Abita commented they might well gain ten grams before the trip was over ;~)

..which reminds me to ask you--you know how they say that people who remain slender are healthier on the whole than 'roly poly' people??? Would the same thing apply to ratties? I'm not being a smart-arse here--just asking.

Those are some cute ratsies. And no there is no way skinny rats are healthier, no way, don't spread fibs......

Eanna is right...many studies have shown that rats fed calorie-restricted diets and kept at lean weights live longer than normal or fat rats. In the labs, the difference is about nine weeks between the life span of the "ever lean" and the "ever obese" rats.
